Iowa Completes Review of Prison System Following Death of Guard and Nurse at Anamosa

The Iowa Department of Corrections announced the statewide, independent external review of its prison system is complete. Following the tragic events of March 23, 2021 when a prison guard and a nurse were killed by two inmates at Anamosa, the State performed an in-depth security review of its prison system.

IDOC Director Beth Skinner said the completion of this review is the next step in improving the safety and security of operations in this department. Skinner says they will carefully analyze the findings and working hand-in-hand with facilities around the state to implement the suggestions.
