Iowa DNR Reports Bypasses In Mount Ayr, Creston
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported a bypass in the city of Mount Ayr Monday morning from the Pasture lift station east of 105 Deerview Lane.
Sewage overflow from the station was expected to have begun around 6 a.m. Monday and was discovered shortly after. The bypass ended around 7:30 a.m.
An estimated 1,250 and 1,500 gallons were diverted into the Middle Fork Grand River. Lime will be spread on the ground.
Residents should keep children and pets away from the area.
A bypass of the City of Creston’s collection system was also observed near Taylor Park Monday morning. The bypass flows into a marshy area and eventually drains into McKinley Lake.
The bypass is expected to stop midweek.
Creston city officials are collecting water samples for analysis. Samples will be taken upstream from where sewage is discharging into marshland and at the outlet end of the marsh on the north side of Adams Street. The samples will be tested for bacterial contamination including ammonia and E. coli.
Residents should keep children and pets away from the area.
