Iowa Traffic Deaths Near Last Year’s Total

Despite Iowa’s efforts to reduce traffic fatalities, this year’s number are close to those of last year. The Iowa State Patrol reports 341 people have died on Iowa roadways in 2021, just two less than 2020.

The Iowa State Patrol formed a fatality reduction task force last year in the hopes of reducing traffic fatalities. The main factor cited by troopers in many of accidents is speeding. They say they have also seen an increase in distracted and impaired drivers.

Plans for 2022 include targeted enforcement operations in various areas throughout the State.
