(Missourinet) What if politics played a role in an age-old debate over how Missouri is pronounced?
According to a new St. Louis University poll, “conservatives” were 4-and-a-half percent more likely to say Missour-UH than “liberal” voters.
Linguist professor Christy Garcia says…
The study found that residents in St. Louis are more likely to say Missour-EE whereas people in rural Missouri were more likely to say Missour-UH, based on self-reporting statistics.
But, at the end of the day, she says there’s no difference between the two ways they are pronounced as they both roll off the tongue the same way.
