Kansas City Man Injured and Charged in Motorcycle Crash Sunday
A Kansas City man was injured and charged in a Buchanan County motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Highway 371, nearly two miles northwest of Dearborn, when a motorcycle driven by 25-year-old Samuel Q. Chapman was heading northbound.
Troopers say Chapman went off the east side of the road, struck a guardrail, spun across the roadway, and came to a rest on the vehicle’s side.
Authorities say Chapman and a passenger, 29-year-old Kansas City resident Layci K. Shoemaker, were both ejected during the crash.
Chapman was taken by Life Flight to KU Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Shoemaker refused medical treatment for minor injuries.
Troopers say Shoemaker was wearing proper safety equipment at the time of the crash, while Chapman was not.
Following the accident, Troopers arrested Chapman on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated as a prior offender, operating a motorcycle without a valid endorsement, and failure to wear an approved helmet.
He was released for medical treatment.
