Kansas Man Seriously Injured When Hit by Vehicle After Accident
ST. JOSEPH, MO – An accident in Buchanan County this morning closed a portion of Interstate 29 and left a Kansas man with serious injuries.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as a vehicle operated by 40-year old Leavenworth, Kansas resident Joshua Lane was northbound on I-29, approximately 1 mile south of St. Joseph. The vehicle travelled off the west side of the roadway and continued northbound in the median. An occupant in the vehicle, 57-year old John Cheatam of Leavenworth, Kansas jumped out of the vehicle into the passing lane of I-29 where he was struck by a vehicle.
Cheatam was taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph with serious injuries. The second vehicle continued northbound without stopping. Lane was cited for felony driving while intoxicated.
