Law Enforcement Advises to Be on the Lookout for Counterfeit Bills
Area law enforcement agencies are advising businesses and individuals to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills. The Carrollton Police Department says a counterfeit twenty dollar bill was passed at a business yesterday. The business was not aware who passed the bill so no suspect information in available.
The Secret Service says all genuine bills, except one and two dollar bills, have a clear thread embedded vertically in the paper. The thread is incribed with the denomination of the note and is visible only when held to light. Each denomination has a unique thread position and glows a different color when held to ultraviolet light.
Bills also contain a watermark, color-shifting ink and unique serial numbers. A guide to recognizing bills can be found HERE.
