Leon Water Meters to be Upgraded Before End of Year

LEON, IA -The City of Leon water department will soon be making upgrades to customer water meters. Every meter will have a transmitter installed which allows the city to remotely read the meter. The new technology is an upgrade to the endpoints previously installed in 2017 which utilizes networks that are being discontinued by cellular companies nationwide. This requires all endpoints on the meters to be replaced by December 31st.

Installation of the new device will only take a few minutes and the City is asking residents to assist in the coordination of the project. Some installation work may take place on weekends. All plumbing will remain in place and no water will be released during the process.

While the city employee is changing the endpoint, they will also observe and record the type of the pipe material that is supplying the meter. The EPA has revised its rules to require each water supplier in the United States to inventory all of the services lines in its system.
