Lexington Man Hurt in Boating Accident

A Lexington man suffered moderate injuries in a Sunday morning boating accident on the Missouri River.

According to the Highway Patrol, a MonsterCat boat being operated by 51-year-old Carrollton resident David W. Swearingin was traveling upstream and a Lowe Utility boat being operated by 45-year-old Lexington resident Michael S. Hutchings was traveling downstream at 7:30 A.M. Sunday during a period of restricted visibility due to fog.

The Patrol says both operators were unable to complete an evasive maneuver and the bow of the Hutchings boat struck the starboard bow of the Swearingin boat. Both vessels suffered extensive damage.

Hutchings suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Swearingin was not injured.
