Liberty Teen Killed, Lawson Teen Seriously Injured in Friday Night Crash

A one vehicle crash Friday evening in Ray County left a Liberty teen dead and a Lawson teen with serious injuries.

According to information from Troop A of the Highway Patrol, an unidentified 17-year-old Liberty resident was driving a 2002 Ford truck on Atkins Road about a half mile north of Route C in Ray County at 8:58 P.M. Friday when the truck crested a hill and the driver lost control.

The truck began to skid before going off the left side of the roadway where it overturned and struck a tree.

The 17-year-old male driver of the truck suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger, a 15-year-old male from Lawson, suffered serious injuries and was taken by Life Flight to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
