Man Leads Clinton County Authorities On High Speed Chase

An Edgerton man led Clinton County authorities on a high speed chase Monday that reached speeds of more than 100-miles-per-hour.

According to information released by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle was observed going 72-miles-per-hour in a 55 miles-per-hour zone on Highway 33 outside of the City of Holt. When the observing deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop the driver refused to pull over and a chase ensued.

The driver reportedly led the deputy on a short chase that reached speeds of 113 miles-per-hour in the county and about 80 miles-per-hour inside the City of Lathrop.

Authorities say that once in Lathrop the suspect attempted to evade officers but when unsuccessful he quickly stopped his vehicle and reputedly surrendered to the deputy saying he was “too old for this *&@!”.

The driver, identified in online jail records as David Kenneth Grindstaff, was jailed on a 24-hold to await formal charges for speeding 26 miles-per-hour or more, failure to stop at a stop sign, resisting or interfering with arrest, detention, or stop, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
