Mercer School Board Reorganizes Following April Election

Mercer School Board members reorganized following last week’s election during their session Monday night. Makella Hagan and Ervin Taff were both sworn into three-year terms. Teri Noe was elected as President. Heath West will be Vice President. Kailer Stevenson will be Secretary/Treasurer.

Board members received a report that summer projects will include relocating sinks and capping gas lines in the Science room and working on growing grass on the softball infield to make the infield smaller.

Board members tabled a $39,200 bid from Maven Mechanical Services to replace a boiler on the east side of the school building. The district will seek more bids.

The board approved the purchase of new ELA textbooks for grades 3-6. The textbooks are being purchased from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and will match the series purchased for grades K-2 from the previous year. The price for a 7 year subscription for a hybrid package that included digital and physical books will cost $26,021.91.

The board accepted the resignations of Esabel Holt as a Paraprofessional after the conclusion of the school year, Jody Owens as Varsity Girls Basketball Assistant Coach, Mark Meinecke as Varsity Boys Assistant Basketball Coach, and Sherri Barker as the Varsity Assistant Softball coach.

The board offered teaching contracts for the 2024/25 school year to Laura Mason for Library/Special Ed and Lindsay Landis for 7-12 English.

The board voted to extend At-Will Agreements to all current Non-Certified employees for the 2024/25 school year.
