Missouri Considers Extending Age Limit for Survivors to Sue Their Abusers

(MISSOURINET) – Missouri is considering whether to extend the age limit for childhood victims of sexual abuse to sue their abusers.

A state House committee is considering a bill that would allow survivors to file a civil lawsuit until they are age 55.

The current age restriction is 26 or 31 years old, depending on the defendant.

Jody Jones says she was abused at the age of 8 by Chuck Price, a Camp Kanakuk (canna-kuck) counselor in Branson.

The American Property Casualty Insurance Association says the bill is unconstitutional and 55 years old is “way too long.”
