Missouri Farm Bureau Requests USDA to Include FSA as Essential Pending Threat of Gov’t Shutdown

(MissouriNet) Could essential services continue to be offered for Missouri’s farmers and ranchers as the threat of a government shutdown looms?

Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins is pressing Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to include the USDA’s Farm Service Agency and Commodity Credit Corporation and their functions as essential operations in the shutdown plan for the agency as the U.S. prepares for a government shutdown on Sept. 30. President Hawkins cites the past several months being incredibly difficult for the AG industry across the country, citing supply chain issues, labor shortage issues, and strain on the economy, not to mention the drought that has impacted 90% of Missouri this summer.
