Missouri House Committee Hears Two Bills to Regulate Drag Shows

(MISSOURINET) – Two bills being considered by a Missouri House committee would place stricter laws on drag shows. One would make it a crime for drag performances to be held on public property or anywhere they could be viewed by children. The other, sponsored by Republican Mazzie Boyd of northwest Missouri’s Hamilton, would redefine sexually oriented businesses to include any venue that hosts a drag performance:

No one testified in favor of the two bills, but about a dozen people testified against it – including several drag performers. One performer said they know what is and what’s not appropriate to say and do in front of children. Votes on the two bills are expected later.
