Missouri Lawmaker Critical Of Commission’s Move To Rates Based On Peak Usage
The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) chair’s job could be on the line if an effort to require private utility companies move residential customers to time-based rates moves forward.
Under the proposal, when the cost to generate and deliver electricity is higher, the cost for customers to use electricity will be higher. The same applies for when the costs are lower.
Senate Majority Leader Cindy O’Laughlin, a Republican from Shelbina, is not a fan.
PSC Chair Scott Rupp says that these rates will help a customer lower their monthly energy expenses.
Under this plan, when the cost to generate and deliver electricity is higher (between the times of 4pm to 8pm), the cost for customers to use electricity will be higher. When the costs are lower, customer rates will be lower.
