Missouri Library Association opposed Ashcroft’s Proposed Rule Change

(MISSOURINET) –  The Missouri Library Association is strongly opposed to a proposed rule change from Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. It would require libraries that receive state funds to adopt written policies regarding what material is age appropriate. It would also give parents the right to challenge a library’s age-appropriate designation for any material. The M-L-A’s Joe Kolburn calls the proposal “a solution looking for a problem:”

The public comment period begins today (Tuesday) and runs for 30 days. It can be viewed in the Missouri Register on the Secretary of State’s website.
