Missouri Senate Passes Bill to Ban Police Chokeholds, with Exception

Police chokeholds could be banned in Missouri….except when deadly force is authorized under the law. The Missouri Senate has overwhelmingly passed two wide-ranging bills that would ban them. One of the bills, sponsored by Parkville Senator Tony Luetkemeyer, would also let Kansas City police officers live outside of city limits.

St. Louis County Democrat Brian Williams is the sponsor of the police chokeholds ban and a provision that would prohibit officers from having sexual contact with someone they have detained or jailed. The bills head to the Missouri House for consideration.
