Missouri Senate Still Deadlocked Over Redistricting

(Missourinet) The hold up in the state senate has Missouri without a redistricting map for the U.S. Congress. The filibuster is when a minority group of senators tries to delay or even block a vote on a piece of legislation. This delay is over the redistricting map that passed in the House of Representatives that outlines six Republican-leaning and two Democrat-leaning districts. The senators delaying a vote on that plan say they want to see a seven to one map favoring Republicans. Many Democrats wanted a five-three map but there seems to be bipartisan support for the one that passed in the House. Senate President Pro-Tem Republican Dave Schatz says he wants to see progress on the map, but it’s important to be patient in the legislative process.
