Missouri Veterans Can Apply for Recognition Through War Medallion Program
The Missouri Veterans Recognition War Medallion Program is accepting applications from veterans of Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.
A veteran, surviving spouse or the oldest living survivor of a deceased veteran may apply for recognition if the veteran meets the eligibility requirements. To be eligible, the veteran must have served on active duty in the United States Military during the conflict dates, which are August 7, 1990 to June 7, 1991 for Desert Storm and March 19, 2003 to December 15, 2011 for Iraqi Freedom. The veteran must also be a legal resident of Missouri at the time of the application, time of discharge, time of death, or have served in a unit of the Missouri National Guard. An honorable discharge must have been obtained by the veteran, or still active in an honorable status.
The War medallion, medal and certificate will be awarded regardless if the veteran served within the United States or in a foreign country.
The program began in 1919 by an Act of the Missouri General Assembly which authorized the Missouri National Guard Adjutant General to present a toke of appreciation to those who served. Applications are still being accepted for World War 2, Korea and Vietnam.
