Missouri Western and Family Guidance Center Join to Expand Student Access to Mental Health Care

Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy, Missouri Western’s president, and Kris Hannon, co-CEO of Family Guidance Center, sign a memorandum of understanding Sept. 29.

Missouri Western students will have expanded access to mental health care under a new memorandum of understanding signed Wednesday between the University and Family Guidance Center.

The partnership will provide additional resources to address the behavioral needs of students. The Counseling Center at Missouri Western helps students with both academic and personal problems that might interfere with their educational pursuits. The Family Guidance clinician will provide assessments, brief intervention, evidence-based therapy, supportive therapy, crisis intervention, counseling or substance abuse disorders, and referrals to external providers.

A psychiatric provider will also be available as needed for medication management. The signing ceremony was held in conjunction with a suicide awareness event during National Suicide Prevention Month.
