MO Audit Finds $8.2 Million in Potential Medicaid Overpayments

A Missouri audit has found more than 8.2 million dollars in potential overpayments to ineligible Medicaid beneficiaries, including prisoners and nonresidents.

State Auditor Nicole Galloway says the Missouri Department of Social Services’ Medicaid Managed Care Program has been using a system since 2014 that does not kick ineligible people off in a timely fashion.

Galloway says as of January, the program had more than 2,400 participants flagged for review of possible ineligibility; most had been in the status for more than a year, with some for nearly three years.

The department says it is working with its system vendor to ensure all participants are tracked and reviewed in a timely way.
