MO Coalition Pushes for Extra Transportation Funding this Year

A broad coalition of Missouri stakeholders has launched a statewide campaign to help build support for extra transportation infrastructure funding.

The “Missouri Can’t Wait” campaign wants action on transportation funding this year. The group supports a Senate bill that would phase in an increase in the gas tax by 2.5 cents each year over five years.

The legislation includes a rebate option and would phase in increased fees on electric vehicles. It is projected to raise more than 500-million dollars annually in additional funding for Missouri’s roads and bridges.

Bill sponsor, Senate President Dave Schatz of Sullivan, says he does not think House Speaker Rob Vescovo is in love with the proposal. Bill supporters include the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Missouri AFL-CIO, UPS, and Southwest Airlines.
