Mo-Dot Announces Construction Schedule For 69-116 Junction Improvements
The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced a schedule for the upcoming construction of improvements at the intersection of U.S. Route 69 and Missouri Route 116.
Mo-Dot has contracted with Amino Brothers Co., Inc. of Kansas City to complete the construction of a roundabout at this intersection, located just east of Interstate 35.
The project will be built in three phases, during the 2022 construction season. First will be bypass construction from April 12 through May 3. That will be followed by construction of the actual roundabout from May 3 through July 11. The final phase of south leg construction and bypass removal is scheduled for July 12 through August 19.
During all three phases, U.S. Route 69 south of Route 116 will be closed just north of 251st Street. Access to 251st Street will remain open.
When complete, the roundabout is expected to increase the safety and reduce fatal and disabling crashes at the intersection. Roundabouts reduce the number of impact points, eliminate the impact points that result in t-bone crashes, and force traffic to slow down while merging at gentler angles. All these greatly reduce the possibility and severity of crashes.
