MO House Could Debate Bill Soon to Raise Age Requirement to Buy Tobacco

In Missouri, 18-year-olds can buy tobacco.

But maybe not for long.

The Missouri House of Representatives could soon debate a bill sponsored by Saint Louis Republican Brad Christ, which would increase the minimum age to buy tobacco products to 21.

The bill also includes provisions to overturn a Saint Louis County ordinance that bans new tobacco licenses within one-thousand feet of a school.

Opponents of this piece of the bill say the ordinance has been shown to curb tobacco use by teens.
