MO House Passes Resolution to Make It Harder to Change State Constitution

(MISSOURINET) – The Missouri House of Representatives has passed an effort to ask voters whether changes to the state Constitution should pass with 60% of the vote instead of the current 50% minimum. State Representative Mike Henderson, a Republican from Bonne Terre (bawn tair), says the state Constitution should not be “an ever-expanding document.”
State Representative David Tyson Smith, a Democrat from Columbia, opposes making it tougher for ballot measures to pass. He also says voters are going “to be fooled” by the proposed resolution starting off with what some Democrats refer to as “ballot candy.”
The measure, which is a Republican priority, heads to the Senate next for consideration.
