MO Senate Committee Hears Charter School Expansion Proposal

The Missouri Senate Education Committee is hearing from the public today about whether charters schools should be expanded in Missouri. Charter schools are public and private funded schools operating independently of traditional public schools. Mary Hill of Liberty near Kansas City says her grandkids’ public education has been suffering during the pandemic and she says talking to the school district has been like talking to a brick wall…

Brent Ghan (rhymes with tan) with the Missouri School Boards’ Association says charter schools don’t play by the same rules and don’t have the same level of accountability as traditional public schools. Under current state law, charter schools are allowed in Kansas City, St. Louis, and any unaccredited Missouri public school district.
