(MISSOURINET) – A Republican effort to put restrictions on the teaching of race history and certain theories about racism has been scaled back. Democrats are still not on board with the plan the Missouri Senate could pass this week that would ban K-12 public schools from teaching that “individuals of any race, ethnicity, color, or national origin are inherently superior or inferior.” State Senator Andrew Koenig (kay-nig), a St. Louis County Republican, is the bill sponsor.
State Senator Karla May, who is Black, says the legislation is “insulting” and still restricts the ability of teachers to freely educate students on history.
