MO Starts Off School Year With Record Number of Schools Using Four-Day School Week Model

(MISSOURINET) –  Missouri is starting off a new school year with about 141 K-12 public school districts, or 27-percent, holding classes four days a week instead of the traditional five days.

Jon Turner, an assistant professor at Missouri State University in Springfield, has been studying this trend in the state for the past eight years.

He says moving to four-day school weeks has been used to help recruit and retain teachers, especially in rural districts…

Turner says more than 70-thousand students are learning this academic year in the four-day school week model.
