Mo West Law Enforcement Academy Has New Commander

The Law Enforcement Academy at Missouri Western State University has its new commander.

The University announced Monday afternoon former Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department investigator, and veteran of both the U.S. Navy and Air Force, Lonnie Bishop will be the new commander. Bishop is set to begin those duties June 16.

Bishop has been with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department since 2014 and has been serving as a part-time professor in the Law Enforcement Academy at Missouri Western since 2021.

Bishop retired as a captain in the U.S. Air Force after a combined 20 years of service in the Air Force and U.S. Navy and has Bachelor of Information Science and Master of Information Science Management degrees from the University of Phoenix.

Missouri Western’s Law Enforcement Academy is certified by the Missouri Department of Public Safety Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission and graduates are eligible for a POST certificate.

The next class starts Monday, July 10, and applications are still being accepted.
