MOFB President Hawkins Testifies in Support of Senate Bill on Farm Family Health Insurance

Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins testified today before the Senate Committee on Insurance and banking on Senate Bill 11 which is sponsored by Senator Sandy Crawford.

Hawkins told committee members that many farmers and ranchers are employed off the farm in order to obtain health insurance while others have no insurance coverage at all. Senate Bill 11 would allow Farm Bureau to help farm families with an option for affordable health coverage. Similar legislation has been passed in six other states.

Hawkins says the plans would be provided by a nationwide provider network through a third-party administrator and are anticipated to be 30 percent less than comparable plans on the ACA. In other states that offer a similar program, nine out of ten applicants are offered coverage.

Senate Bill 11 will go to the full Senate for consideration if it is voted out of committee.
