Increased traffic is expected over the Thanksgiving holiday. Drivers are reminded to remain alert to changes along their normal route and safety should be a priority.
The counting period for the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday weekend will be from 6 p.m. on Wednesday to midnight on Sunday. Troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E., enforcing all traffic laws, and available to assist the public.
During last year’s counting period, 11 people were killed and 634 injured in 1,594 traffic crashes.
Anyone boating or fishing during the holiday weekend are reminded that navigation lights are essential with less daylight. This time of year, the water is becoming colder and hypothermia is a concern. Anyone around water should have a plan in case someone inadvertently falls overboard.
