MWSU Golden Griffin Marching Band Under New Leadership

ST. JOSEPH, MO – Missouri Western’s Golden Griffin Marching Band will be under new leadership as they take the field for the football home opener this (Thursday) evening.

Dr. Matthew Halligan joined the Missouri Western State University faculty after leading the U.S. Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps in Annapolis, Maryland.  Prior to his stint at the U.S. Naval Academy, Dr. Halligan taught at George Mason University and the University of Maryland in College Park.

In addition to his educational leadership, Dr. Halligan spent more than 20 years as a professional musician, including 6 years as a member of “The Commandant’s Own” Marine Drum and Bugle Corps in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Halligan will also lead the Missouri Western pep bans for the basketball season as well as the annual Tournament of Champions marching band competition and Homecoming Parade.  Dr. Halligan is joined in St. Joseph by his wife Christine and son Brody.
