Narrower House Margins Will Impact Farm Bill Deliberations

Republicans appear poised to claim the majority in the House, with several Congressional races still too close to call.

Combined with Democrats retaining control of the Senate, negotiations on the new Farm Bill needed next year could become even more difficult as intraparty rifts emerge and more eyes turn toward 2024.

Jacqui Fatka, Agri-Pulse associate editor, says bringing newer members up to speed about the importance of the Farm Bill is critical to its fate.

Fatka says with a slimmer overall majority, a pragmatic approach should prevail, even with extreme caucuses within each party.

Agri-Pulse Associate Editor Jacqui Fatka notes that if gridlock were to occur with the new Congress, a continuing resolution passed after the current Farm Bill expires September 30th would allow its provisions to continue.

Fatka spoke Wednesday in Kansas City at the annual National Association of Farm Broadcasting convention.
