New Book Highlights Missouri DOC’s ‘Puppies For Parole’ Program

A program that helps Missouri prison inmates with rehabilitation by having them train puppies is the subject of a book published this year.

“Puppies for Parole: Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Redemption in Missouri’s Prisons” was written by Christy Bertelson. She says inmates who take part in the program often become more responsible and compassionate people as a whole.

Bertelson also says inmates cannot have any infractions for at least a year before being eligible to become a dog trainer.
