The nursing shortage has worsened during the pandemic – paving the way for traveling nurses to make big bucks. Heidi Lucas, with the Missouri Nurses Association, says the demand for traveling nurses in Missouri and throughout the country is costing hospitals big bucks.

Lucas says some nurses are leaving permanent jobs to work as traveling nurses. She urges Missouri hospitals to instead increase pay and provide more flexible schedules and retention bonuses for nurses in permanent positions.
