NWMSU Reports Enrollment Increase

Northwest Missouri State University reported a total enrollment increase for a third consecutive year. Northwest began their fall semester on Wednesday with on-ground classes with COVID-19 mitigation measures at the main campus in Maryville and the Northwest-Kansas City site in Gladstone.

Northwest’s total headcount was 7,018. That compares with 6,841 students on the first day last year. Northwest’s retention rate was announced at 76%. That is the university’s second-highest retention rate ever.

The enrollment figure includes a 29 percent increase in first-time graduate students and a 26 percent increase in overall graduate student enrollment. Online enrollment is up 15 percent.

The Northwest freshmen class totals 1,248. 44 percent of the class is being identified as a first-generation college student.

The final enrollment number will not be taken until the official census is taken on September 16th.
