Authorities say an offender at the Western Reception, Diagnostic, & Correctional Center is dead.
The Missouri Department of Corrections says 67-year-old offender Mark Atherton died Thursday at 1:03 p.m at the correctional center.
The department of corrections received Atherton on August 16, 1975, on a life sentence for murder and armed criminal action in Platte County.
Authorities say Atherton died of apparent natural causes.
