Omaha Man Seriously Hurt in Friday Crash

An Omaha man was left with serious injuries after an accident early Friday in Atchison County.

Troop H of the Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Omaha resident Brandon S. Medina was driving a 2005 Ford Freestar southbound on Interstate 29 about five miles north of Rock Port at 1:15 A.M. Friday morning when his vehicle impacted the towed unit of a 2019 International tractor trailer being operated by 27-year-old Beatrice, Nebraska resident Nicholas R. White.

After the collision Medina’s vehicle went off the east side of the highway, through the medina and across the northbound lanes of traffic. The vehicle then went down an embankment and hit a fence before coming to rest in a field.

The Highway Patrol says Medina was not wearing a seat belt at the time and suffered serious injuries. He was taken by Atchison Holt ambulance to George C. Grape Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa for treatment.

Medina was arrested for driving while intoxicated, failing to wear a seat belt, and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner involving an accident.
