One Fatality, Two Others Injured, In Andrew County Accident
A Shelbyville, Missouri pickup driver died and two others in his vehicle were seriously hurt following an accident between two pickups just before 1pm Thursday afternoon south of Rochester.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 57 year old Michael Peterson of Shelbyville was driving a pickup northbound on U.S. 169 Highway and another vehicle, driven by 63 year old Jean Smith of St Joseph, was entering 169 Highway from a private driveway. Peterson attempted to avoid a collision but front of Smith’s pickup hit the passenger side of Peterson’s pickup. Peterson’s vehicle started to skid and eventually overturned. Peterson was thrown from the pickup. The pickup eventually landed on its wheels. Peterson died at the scene of the accident. 56 year old Gary Mayhall of Shelby, Nebraska was a passenger in Peterson’s pickup and was seriously hurt. 37 year old Montgomery Hightshoe of Paris, Missouri received moderate injuries. Both were taken to Mosaic Life Care in St Joseph. The other driver was not injured.
The accident took place 2 miles south of Rochester in Andrew County. The Andrew County Sheriff’s Department and the Andrew County Fire and EMS assisted 5 troopers that worked the accident.
