One Person With Minor Injuries After Two Vehicle Collision

A two-vehicle collision involving a dump truck and large truck with towed unit came to a fiery conclusion Monday, but luckily involved only one person left with minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol says 79-year-old New Hampton resident Gary L. Stevens was driving a 1975 Chevy dump truck southbound on Route EE in Harrison County at 2:30 Monday afternoon when his vehicle went off the west side of the roadway and then returned to the highway only to cross the center line.

That’s when the front driver side of the dump truck hit a unit being towed by a 2022 Ford F-350 being driven by 22-year-old Tarkio resident Briacin D. Gebhards.

Following the impact the dump truck went off the east side of the roadway where it overturned on to its drivers side and caught fire, ultimately becoming fully engulfed.

The impact also caused the towed unit of the Gebhards vehicle to become disconnected. It went off the east side of the roadway as well, coming to rest on its passenger side.

Stevens was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and suffered minor injuries. He was taken by NTA ambulance to Harrison County Community Hospital for treatment.

Gebhards was not injured.
