Person in Custody After Hit-And-Run Involving Child Thursday Near Excelsior Springs

A person is in custody after a reported hit-and-run involving a child Thursday outside Excelsior Springs.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says they were dispatched around 4:21 Thursday afternoon to the 24600 block of West 92 Highway near Cameron Road.

Authorities say a seven-year-old boy suffered injuries after a black pick-up truck struck him getting off a school bus.

The driver reportedly fled the scene, and emergency responders treated the boy, who remained alert, for non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies later posted an update on social media saying the driver of the truck was in custody.
