Pre-Drought Conditions Now Reported In Some Of Northern Missouri

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Report, the territory for three levels of drought experienced in mostly the southern half of Missouri have been reduced, but pre-drought conditions are now evident in northern Missouri.

This week, only 35 percent of Missouri territory is considered without dryness. Pre-drought territory is being recorded just across the Iowa-Missouri state line along all the northern counties of Missouri. Large percentages of Andrew, DeKalb, Daviess, Clinton, and Caldwell Counties are also in pre-drought conditions.

Extreme Drought territory reduced in southwest Missouri from 14 to 3 percent. Severe drought in mostly southern Missouri was also reduced from 48 percent to 38 percent in the week-to-week comparison.

Iowa’s Drought Monitor Map experienced a downgrade. Moderate drought is being experienced in northern Decatur, Ringgold, Wayne, and Taylor counties. Pre-drought conditions are shown in the southern parts of those counties. Severe drought has also moved into northern Clarke and Union counties.

Iowa’s Severe Drought territory increased from 9 to 17 percent. Moderate Drought increased from 31 to 39 percent.

The weather forecast does include some mild chances of rain for the region early next week.
