Preliminary Fire Investigation Leading To Fatality Yields Suspected Cause

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department says the preliminary investigation indicated the fire which resulted in a fatality in New Hampton appears to have started from a propane space heater within the residence.

Fire crews worked more than four hours on Monday evening to control a fire at 108 North Market Street in New Hampton. The called indicated the possibility of a person trapped inside. Fire crews from New Hampton, Bethany, Albany, and North Harrison responded. Following a search, an adult female body was found from the rubble.

Clothing and personal items are being taken for Cecil Clark, the surviving victim of the fire. Donations will be collected at New Hampton City Hall. Items needed include size extra large t-shirts, sweatshirts, long sleeved shirts, 32 x 32 jeans, medium or large sweat pants, house slippers, and large pajamas.

Personal care items being collected include deodorant, body wash, tooth brush, toothpaste, and mouthwash.

All donations are greatly appreciated.
