The University of Missouri has announced they are launching MizzouForward, a record $1.5 billion dollar long-term initiative.

The program is part of a ten-year transformation with the goal of “enhancing the university’s research and education missions.” according to the University.

Dr. Mun Choi, President of the University Of Missouri System says the plan is “a big deal”, and “it’s the biggest investment in our history and we’re happy to be making this kind of commitment.”

Some of the goals of the MizzouForward Plan are to include recruiting about 150 new faculty over the next decade, upgraded scientific facilities and instruments, and efforts to increase graduation rates and job placement.

The system says the money for the program will come from a variety of resources including tuition revenue, funding partners, donors, and the state. Dr. Choi says “it is a good return on investment for taxpayers.”

Dr. Choi also stated “We create, by the last count in 2018, about 5.4 billion dollars in economic impact just in the state of Missouri. And that was three years ago.”
