Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate Dips Slightly
Missouri non-farm payroll employment was down slightly from March to April, but the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was also down by two-tenths of a percentage point. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.4 percent in April, down from 3.6 percent in March. Over the year, there was an increase of 76,000 jobs from April 2021 to April 2022.
Goods producing industries were higher for the month. Manufacturing gained 500 jobs. Private service-providing industries were down by 4,800 jobs between March and April. The employment drops came from trade, transportation, utilities, education and health services, information, and financial activities.
The estimated number of unemployed Missourians was 103,594 in April 2022, down by 6,399 from March’s 109,993.
The national unemployment rate remained unchanged from 3.6 percent over the month. Missouri’s unemployment rate has been at or below the national rate for the last five years.
