Sen. Luetkemeyer Hopes to Cap Property Tax Assessment Growth

Senator Tony Luetkemeyer of Parkville has pre-filed legislation to protect Missouri homeowners from what he calls “runaway” property tax assessments.

Luetkemeyer’s proposal would cap assessment growth to the greater of five percent or a rate equal to inflation. A companion measure would put the question before voters.

Senator Luetkemeyer says some Missourians have seen their tax assessments double or even triple since 2019. His proposal would build on reforms passed two years ago and would prevent Missouri homeowners from seeing another dramatic jump next year.
