Sen. Schmitt Pushing Back Against Biden’s Partial Student Loan Forgiveness
(MissouriNet) Missouri U-S Senator Eric Schmitt is pushing back against a renewed effort to forgive student loan debt in the U-S.
Despite losing the Supreme Court battle over his student loan forgiveness program, President Biden is pushing ahead with a scaled-back plan that would wipe out 39 billion dollars of student loan debt for more than 800-thousand borrowers. In response, Senator Schmitt has sent a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona demanding why the Biden Administration is still pursuing a bailout despite the High Court’s ruling. In a press release, Schmitt says he “will not stand idly by” as the White House pushes a plan that would “burden the truck driver or the waitress with the debt from the theater degree of the tenured professor.” President Biden has called his scaled-back student loan forgiveness plan “legally sound.”
