Senator Hawley Urges Passage of Bill Restoring American Energy Independence
WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri delivered remarks on the Senate Floor on his American Energy Independence Act, which would reverse President Biden’s shutdown of the American energy sector and return energy to full production. Democrats have objected to the bill.
Immediately following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the price of oil rose to over $100 a barrel for the first time since 2014. Hawley says the Biden Administration has been reluctant to sanction the Russian energy sector, due to the U.S.’s dangerous dependence on foreign energy.
Hawley continued to say Biden’s moves to make the United States more dependent on Russian oil emboldens and empowers Vladimir Putin, who is waging the largest conventional military attack in Europe since 1945.
Hawley says the bill he proposes would return this country to energy dominance.
