LAMONI, IA – Over $2,000 has been raised to help pay for Mount Ayr student’s school lunches.
Abbey Hoffman of Lamoni began raising funds after a Facbook post said sack lunches would be served to students who owed more than $5 on their lunch account.
Donations poured in, adding up to more than $1,000 in less than 24 hours.
KCCI in Des Moines reported Superintendent Jason Shaffer said that miscommunication led to the announcement and assured every child will be served a hot meal.
A bank account has been started as the American State Bank in Lamoni to which people can directly donate. Money raised will be donated to the Mount Ayr School District and other neighboring districts to help pay off balances on student meal accounts.
